Replacement cooler and freezer doors, matched to your opening
Retrofit plug doors and complete door-and-frame replacements for the walk-in you already own, in standard sizes or made to your opening — plus manual or electric sliding doors for openings where a swing door cannot work.
Frigid’s cooler or freezer retrofit plug doors and replacement doors & frames replace existing cooler or freezer doors. They fit most makes of walk-in and come with all the components needed for installation.
When you request a quote or place an order, tell us whether it is a cooler or a freezer and give the walk-through opening: width, height and depth. Freezer doors and frames come with a perimeter heater wire; cooler doors do not.

Retrofit plug doors and frames
A complete door and frame that sets into the opening of the walk-in you have. The small door is the standard personnel door; the large door takes carts, racks and pallet traffic through in one movement.
- Wooden door frame encased in metal — heavy-duty on the large doors.
- 26 gauge stucco-embossed Acrylume on the interior and exterior of door and frame.
- 4″ insulation with an EISA-approved R-value of R-29.2 for coolers and R-34 for freezers.
- Inside casing door frame to secure the exterior door frame.
- Hardware: cam-lift hinges on the small doors, heavy-duty strap hinges and a heavy-duty latch on the large ones, and a glow-in-the-dark inside release handle on all of them — you cannot get locked in, even if the latch is padlocked.
- Perimeter door gasket for a positive seal around the frame, and a door sweep across the bottom to seal to the floor or threshold.
- Freezer doors and frames are equipped with a perimeter heater wire connected to a 2″ × 4″ electrical junction box (115 V).
Horizontal sliding doors for openings that cannot swing
Frigid’s cooler or freezer horizontal single-leaf sliding doors are used for personnel and material-handling traffic where space restricts a swing-type door. Suitable for interior and exterior applications on coolers, freezers and food processing facilities that need a larger door for pallet or forklift traffic. Electric operation is also available.
- 4″ insulation, R-29.2 cooler / R-34 freezer, 26 gauge stucco-embossed Acrylume inside and out.
- Outside casing of 1⅝″ × 12″ metal clad with a bubble neoprene gasket on three sides; inside casing of 1⅝″ × 12″ metal clad top and 6″ sides.
- Heavy-duty track, adjustable in and out, up and down, with two 4-wheel bearing trolleys for the door to glide on, a completely assembled track system for each installation, and a cover for the track.
- Handles and stops: outside chrome-plated 8¼″ pull handle, inside recessed pull handle, front die-cast door stop and rear door stop bumper.
- Bottom detail: trailer aluminum edge 4″ high with a 3″ wedge, rear floor guide roller and a double neoprene bottom sweep gasket.
- Wall channel: 4″ PVC channel for a 4″ wall, or a metal channel matched to the wall thickness for wider doors.
- Freezer doors and frames are equipped with a perimeter heater wire connected to a 2″ × 4″ electrical junction box (115 V).
Finish options
- 26 gauge white stucco-embossed galvanized steel in place of Acrylume.
- 24 gauge 304 grade stainless steel, #3 finish.
- Aluminum diamond-tread kick plates, interior and exterior.
- View windows in plug doors, different sizes available.
Signs the door is costing you money
A door that no longer seals is usually the largest single energy leak in a walk-in — and replacing it costs a fraction of replacing the box.
- Frost or ice around a freezer frame — warm, humid air is getting in and freezing.
- Sweating on a cooler door or the panel beside it.
- A gasket that stays flat instead of springing back, or that is split, torn or pulling away.
- Compressor runtime creeping up for the same load and the same weather.
Replacement Doors FAQ
Will a replacement door fit my walk-in?
Our retrofit plug doors and replacement doors & frames fit most makes of walk-in and come with all the components needed for installation. Give us the walk-through opening — width, height and depth — and tell us cooler or freezer. Measure the frame opening, not the worn door.
What is a plug door?
A door whose insulated slab sets into the opening rather than lying flat against it, with a perimeter gasket that seals all the way around the frame and a sweep across the bottom to the floor or threshold. It is the standard walk-in door format because that geometry seals and stays sealed as the gasket ages. Ours come as a complete door and frame, with an inside casing that secures the exterior frame.
When should I use a sliding door instead of a swing door?
When space restricts the use of a swing-type door, or when the traffic is pallets and forklifts and you need a larger opening. Sliding doors are suitable for interior and exterior applications on coolers, freezers and food processing facilities. Manual is standard; electric operation is also available.
Are freezer doors heated?
Yes. Freezer doors and frames are equipped with a perimeter heater wire connected to a 2″ × 4″ electrical junction box (115 V), so the frame does not ice up and freeze the door shut. Cooler doors do not need it — which is why we ask cooler or freezer before quoting.
Can I get stainless steel, or a window?
Both. 24 gauge 304 grade stainless steel in a #3 finish, or 26 gauge white stucco-embossed galvanized steel, in place of the standard Acrylume; aluminum diamond-tread kick plates inside and out; and view windows in different sizes.
Can I get locked inside?
No. Every plug door carries a glow-in-the-dark inside release handle — you cannot get locked in, even if someone padlocks the latch from outside.
Do you make other sizes?
Yes. The standard sizes are what is on the shelf; we can meet any size opening. Call with the walk-through opening and we will quote it.
